Do you feel a little fuzzy in the throat and a little snuffly in the nose? While you might be trying to tell yourself that those feelings probably don’t mean anything, the truth is that you are probably already fighting off a cold or the beginnings of the flu. There are lots of natural health cures in your kitchen; there’s no need to start popping medications. There are more options out there than what you’ll find on your pharmacy shelves. We won’t tell you to ignore your doctor but before you schedule the appointment, why not try a natural remedy for a couple of days and see if it works?

Onions are great immune system boosters. One of the most famous cold and flu remedies is a syrupy substance made of onions and honey. Dredge some onion slices in a bowl filled with honey and let them sit. Make sure that the two are mixed well together and let it sit overnight. Eat one spoon full of the syrup once every three hours or so for a few days and your cold or flu should get better! You can also just add some onions to your food-they go well with just about everything! Another factor is that using clip on sunglasses can save your eyes from the effects of ultraviolet rays.

Garlic is well known for its detoxifying properties. The best way to make sure it has a chance to do its job; you want to take about 500 mgs of garlic three times a day while you’re sick. 500 mgs of garlic is about the same as a clove of garlic. This can be accomplished by either taking a tablet of garlic or by including a clove of garlic into your meals at least three times a day. Garlic is readily available; you can by clove flowers of garlic at the store for low prices or a bottle of the spice pretty inexpensively. A note about garlic: the 500mgs a day 3 times a day remedy should not go beyond five days. Your doctor should be called if you spend more than five days feeling very sick.

Steam is your friend. Hot baths and showers can be even more helpful than over the counter sinus drugs. You will have an easier time breathing when you use steam to help open up your sinus passages. To get better you need to get lots of rest and the heat from the water will relax your muscles which will make it easier to rest. You can also get the helpful steam from large containers of steaming water-just lean over the opening of the container with a towel over your head. The towel will help aim the steam at your face and keep the water from cooling out too quickly. Steam aids in the productivity of blowing your nose because it relaxes the sinuses’ hold on the discharge they contain.

To stay well and kill colds before they start, use natural health methods to improve the performance of your immune system. If you know how to treat your symptoms the right way you can help yourself get better faster and keep yourself from relapse. Use some common sense and, instead of taking a lot of drugs, use natural methods to treat your cold or flu.
